dam...i'm a runner

last weekend i completed my first dam to dam race here in des moines. although i wasn't breaking any records - i'm pretty darn proud of myself for how i did. i came in under the time i wanted and felt good during and after the run. if you're interested - 20k race - chip time 2:07:28 - pace 10:15

the morning started off cool and cloudy - but perfect conditions for a long run on a june day

getting ready to start...

a little butt shot as i fly by

after the finish with my running partner

it's races like these and results like these that make me so happy that i've found a way to stay healthy that i actually love. if you asked me 7 years ago if i ever thought i could do this - i would have adamantly said NO WAY! it feels really good to say that i am a runner today and really mean it

and of course, after 12 miles...
i deserved a little pampering on my tootsies! ;)
thanks to hubs for setting this up for me

we are headed to the lake tonight
enjoy your weekends

it's finally here....

the first day of school!!

i will spare you all the details of a huge mistake a made over the summer - but basically i have to wait ONE more semester to start my nursing program :( boo.
but classes are still on the agenda this fall - including Anatomy & Physiology II, Microbiology and Chemistry. It's a full time schedule of classes and a 24 hour work week...so i will be a busy little bee the next few months (or, ahem, YEARS!)
but i could not be more stoked about this new chapter in my life - i have never been more sure of something in my whole life, and it is one of the best feelings i have ever experienced.
looking forward to sharing the details with all of you as i chug along!
hugs,
rachie

{how'd i do on my outfit recreation??}

full of gratitude...

well first of all, apparently i haven't been on blogger for a loooooooooooooong time, because the whole darn thing has changed!! wow - it's gonna take a while to get used to this.
anyways...
every day i try and take some time to recognize all of the wonderfulness in my life and feel grateful in my heart for those things. it always makes the hard things and the craziness a little easier to handle when i can remember all the great and unique ways that i am blessed.
so much has been going on lately - and it would take me ages to run through it all. so instead, here are some of the things that put a smile on my face today...

my new yoga class at harmony
and grateful it wasn't me that tooted super loud at the end of class :)

the great country music that is on the radio lately - i've been jamming all summer long!

getting to babysit this nugget in a few days

looking back on this photo i got from my sissy of my nephew playing with his bday present

a lighter load on homework this week
unanswered prayers
catching up on the bachelorette
opening the windows in the house with a cool breeze sweeping in!
smiling when God throws me a curveball

finally eating my cookie monster cupcake - uh YUM

well, friends - hope you all had a day full of all the things that make you smile too

i missed the test!

this morning, in between snooze sessions of my alarm clock, i had my only one recurring dream.
this is how it all went down:

{i am in college, it is finals time, and i've only just realized that i missed taking two of my exams for classes that i couldn't even remember that i had! i couldn't even remember the names of the courses!!}

now, this was this morning's version of my recurring dream - but all the others are some similar versions of me not taking a test, or frantically trying to get to the test site, because i have, at the last possible second, realized that i even had the class to begin with. (in my first round of college, these dreams creeped up with the added panic of realization of the course because i had chosen to skip that class all semester long - skipped the class in my dream, mind you :))

when i finally woke up today, i wondered....does anyone else have this dream?? and what could it possibly mean? especially since i continue to have it throughout my life....

so, i did a little research. and although i can't find an exact match for this dream scenario - i did find some interesting information...check it out

To dream that you are taking an exam, indicates that you are being put to the test or being scrutinized in some way. These dreams highlight some anxiety or agitation that you are experiencing in your waking life. In such dreams, you may find that you cannot answer any of the questions on the test, that the test is in some foreign language or that your pencil keeps breaking during the test. Perhaps time is running out and you cannot complete the exam in the allowed time. Or perhaps, you arrive late and miss the exam. These factors contribute to failing the dream test. These dreams usually have to do with your self-esteem and confidence or the lack of. You tend to believe in the worst about yourself and are often overly worried that you are not making the grade and measuring up to other people's expectations of you. You may also experience the fear of not being accepted, not being prepared, or not being good enough.Test dreams also suggest that you are feeling unprepared for a challenge. Rarely, these dreams are about the actual content of the test, but rather it is more about the process and how you feel during the exam taking process. These feelings often parallel how you are actually feeling in a particular challenge or situation in your waking life.
Test dreams are also an indication that you are being judged. These dreams serve as a signal for you to examine an aspect of yourself that you may have been neglecting and need to pay more attention to. You may be harboring some guilt because you did not prepare enough for a school exam, meeting, business project, or some project. Most of the time, though, people who have such dreams are unlikely to fail a test in real life. This dream is rooted in the fear and anxiety that you may not meet other's standards. You are afraid to let others down.

(interestingly enough, i did have a meeting this morning that i was not prepared for and i am feeling a bit overwhelmed with schoolwork and my actually work work lately)

and then this is discouraging :(

Examination

The grandfather of obstacle dreams, with a classic simplicity of meaning. If you failed the examination, the dream is telling you that your ambitions are beyond your ability. However, if you passed the exam easily or it presented no major problem to you, it predicts comfortable achievement of all your hopes.

(i guess if i missed the tests entirely, i must have failed them right?)

i love dreams and dreaming - i don't remember them all that often, but i really enjoy when i can remember one, or part of one, in detail. and i don't necessarily think dreams predict the future - but sometimes i think they can be a good indication of "stuff" that's on your mind or concerns you might be suppressing. just so amazing how the brain can work like this, while we are SLEEPING!!!

so, tell me - what kind of crazy dreams do you have?

hugs,
rachie
