Crosby - Five Month Update

stats:

weight? - around 17.5 pounds

still wears 6 month sized clothes and size 3 diapers

drinks 5 oz bottles about every three hours (total of 30 oz a day) - and a bowl of rice cereal in the afternoon. i am still nursing him when he is home with me and he'll get a bedtime bottle at night.

sleep update: we started off the month with crosby sleeping in his swing - sometimes for the entire night - and slowly transitioned him back to his crib (at least for the first part of the night anyway). in early january, for a few nights - we even let him cry it out. i've created a little "nest" for him in his crib with some blankets rolled up under his sheet and the mattress is tilted so he isn't laying completely flat. then the little stinker got an ear infection - so letting him cry at night didn't seem very nice or fair. we then decided to give him his swaddle back :( on 1/13. he's been doing much better since then tho and i'm hoping we can take him out of the swaddle again soon and remove his "nest" and put the mattress back to it's normal position.  but this seems to be working for us right now - so why mess with it!! he will wake up and cry at 3am and then wake up for the day around 5am.

naps 2-4 times a day for about 45 minutes

enjoyed his first christmas - celebrated with both sides of the family and got to meet all of his cousins! he made out really well in the gifts department too - mom and dad got him a huge stuffed elephant we've named Ralph, some books and a Pearl Jam onsie. he also came home with a ride along elephant toy, a baby laptop, a baby cellphone, an oball, an elephant chew/teething toy, some clothes, a radio flyer wagon, a toddler sled. i'm sure i am missing some of the other goodies he got - but i at least wanted to document the big ones!

like i mentioned earlier - he got his first ear infection on 1/12 and was treated with amoxicillin. which gave him lots of runny, poopy diapers - that led to...the worst diaper rash ever! his poor little butt...

but the little man still LOVES being naked (we've even instituted "naked time" each night before bath time) - so with that silly diaper rash - we got to play completely naked a few times to air it out. and since he loves having no clothes on so much, on 1/16 after day care - he got all the way naked and....

rolled over from his back to tummy for the first time! all month long he was getting SO close and i predicted that he would finally get it before his 5 month birthday - and he did it! big boy

he gets pretty frustrated when he is trying something new for the first time and will grunt with annoyance. he can grab all his toys now and hardly ever misses!

found his toes on 1/12 and grabs his feet any times his socks are off

he is sitting up with help and prefers that position more to any other right now

still enjoys bath time - which he usually gets each night before bed - and has learned how to splash with his legs

he pats at things with his hands when he is nursing or drinking his bottle - and recently has started grabbing your fingers while you hold the bottle and gives little squeezes. it melts my heart! we think he is close to holding his own bottle soon

although he doesn't do this all too often any more - he was blowing spit bubbles and doing this lip smacking thing. it was adorable

his favorite toys are - sophie the giraffe, blue teething elephant, green o'ball, Timmy the dog and his rolling, light up ball

he will follow mommy and daddy with his eyes around the room and knows when we are gone. he definitely recognizes daddy's voice too - and will look around for him when he hears it

met his great-grandma Billie on 1/17 when he took a trip with his mommy, papa vern and grandma vera to kansas city. great grandma fell in love with his sweet smile and squeels! he was such a good boy and traveled really well. (didn't sleep very well while we were there though)

loves:

sitting up

playing naked

playing peek-a-boy

bath time

rubbing my head on daddy's whiskers

hates:

being burped

getting nose and mouth wiped

getting dressed

Crosby - Three Month Update

stats:
weight 14 lbs, 7 oz - as of 12 weeks old (88 percentile)
length ??
wears 3-6 month sized clothes
eats every 3-4 hours
was sleeping at night 10-12 hours - this past week we shook his world up a bit with starting day care and me going back to work - so he's been waking up in the middle of the night again - usually he just needs to be cuddled for a few minutes and then put back to sleep
naps throughout the day for about 45 minutes each
spit up has gone down a little bit
continues to smile and can show you with squeels when he finds something amusing
blows saliva bubbles and drooling has increased
grabbed his toy ladybug for the first time on 11/5 (about 11 weeks)
turned all the way around in his crib at night on 11/6
will roll to his side and arch his back when lying on his back - but has not turned over yet from back to tummy
continues to be swaddled at naps and bedtime (at home)
started day care on 11/17 (12 weeks old) and goes three days a week

loves:
standing in his exersaucer
bumbo chair
bouncy chair with hanging toys
play mat and tummy time
the books Little Blue Truck and Dr Seuss' ABCs
when mommy and daddy make "strawberry" sounds with our mouths
chewing on the fingers of his right hand
looking at his reflection in the mirror

hates:
going to sleep (although he does have some good nights where going to bed is very smooth)
the furnace sounds in the middle of the night

some of the comments we got from Crosby's teachers about his first days at day care:
"crosby was jabbering quite a bit this AM"
"what a sweet boy"
"he enjoys being on the floor watching his friends"
"he is adjusting really well"
"enjoys songs and movement"

Crosby - Four Month Update

stats:

at his 4 month check up (12/18/14)...weight 16 lbs, 2oz (78 percentile) & length 24.8 in (51 percentile)

wears 6 month sized clothes and size 3 diapers

still eats every 3-4 hours - i estimate 4 oz bottles for him throughout the day

still not sleeping through the night consistently - we've transitioned him out of his crib and now let him sleep in his rock 'n' play or the swing all night - where the odds of him sleeping the whole night are MUCH better

still naps throughout the day for about 45 minutes each

spit up has gone down quite a bit - we aren't having to change outfits because of it anymore - so i will call that an improvement!

found his "voice" on 12/7/14 and screams when he is happy and wants to talk

has become quite the drool monster - no signs of teeth or anything yet though

reaches for and grabs his toys consistently now and responds to toys with lights and sounds

still hasn't rolled over from back to tummy - but he still tries. he also doesn't consistently roll over from his tummy to back - although we know he can do it ;)

NO MORE SWADDLE!! we changed his swaddle once we determined he wasn't going to sleep through the night any more - we started using the Swaddle Up type swaddle. he liked that and used that for a few weeks. then we tried sleeping without a swaddle at all on 12/16 and he didn't sleep any worse than usual - so we've kept it off ever since

tried rice cereal for the first time on 12/19 - he's not so sure about the spoon, but is getting better. i only gave him cereal consistently for two days and then stopped because the poor buddy got sick - and i didn't feel like making him work so hard while he's getting over this

got sick for the first time 12/19 - doctor confirmed that it is RSV. we are doing albuterol nebulizer breathing treatments every 4 hours for relief - and hoping it all passes without event soon!

enjoyed his first holiday with family - THANKSGIVING - and traveled well in the car. he met his cousin Nora for the first time and posed for a family picture for our christmas cards

we put together his high chair and i've had him sit in it a few times while i get a few things done in the kitchen. he's doesn't love it but doesn't hate it either ;)

we had a swing "incident" on the morning of 12/5 - little man fell out. luckily our swing is very low to the ground and he is just fine. we now strap him into EVERYTHING since he is so strong and such a mover these days.

his eye color seems to have settled i think - we are in an in between shade - somewhat of a hazel/green - but i have to say they are the most beautiful eyes i've ever seen

loves:

being naked - we get the best screams out of him when he's in just a diaper

chewing his whole fist and fingers

baths

light up toys and music - and even when mommy sings

leg and foot massages

rattle and spinning wheel toy

hates:

sitting in your lap - wants to move and stand up!
